Etienne Uzac

Etienne Uzac, a seasoned media entrepreneur, possesses extensive expertise in both print and digital media, along with exceptional business understanding on a global scale. His journey began with a move from his birthplace of Santiago, Chile, to South Africa and France, where he attended Lycée Stanislas Paris for his high school education. He then pursued higher education at The London School of Economics and Political Science before venturing to New York. In 2006, Etienne joined the founding team of International Business Times (IBT), a digital media company based in New York. IBT swiftly established itself as a leading provider of business news coverage, catering to various countries through its innovative all-digital format. Recognizing the growth potential, IBT expanded its horizons and rebranded as IBT Media, introducing additional brands such as Medical Daily, Latin Times, and Player. One, and Fashion Times.

Etienne, alongside the IBT team, played a pivotal role in the remarkable development of Newsweek Magazine. Their substantial investments in Newsweek's growth resulted in the transformation of the publication from an e-magazine to a comprehensive news website hosted at its original domain, newsweek.com. Simultaneously, they successfully revived the print edition. Newsweek's engaging and thought-provoking editorial content garnered significant attention, leading to profitability by the end of 2014. IBT experienced substantial growth under Etienne's leadership, largely driven by proprietary technologies that gave the company a competitive edge in digital publishing. The employment of top-tier journalists and the company's commitment to excellence led to the acquisition of prestigious awards, including 6 SABEWs, 1 Izzy, and 3 The Drum Online Media Awards. In 2016, Etienne stepped down from his CEO position at IBT to focus on personal activities. However, in 2023, he returned as the company's CEO, reaffirming his dedication to IBT's continued success and expansion.
